dear zoners. I ended up in a very intresting discussion online with a lady whi aparently has a daughter who's blind. she has a guide dog, and went on at how good the dogie was at atacking those that atacked her. i wonder, eh is that a 2normal2 custom over there in the states to teach the guide dog to attack strangerws who atacks you?
my doggie would try to do anything liek that ... he'd be off duty, at once!

greetings from a quite confused voiceofjoy .)

i think that would be highly illegal as far as guide dogs are concerned. if a dog was trained to attack, that would be a bad thing me thinks.

No, Guide dogs are never supposed to attack anyone, because that is not what they are trained to do. They are only supposed to help a blind or visually impaired person get from point A to point B safely.

Guides are chosen and trained to be comfortable (not aggressive) around people and animals. They certainly aren't trained to attack. How a dog reacts in an extreme situation, I suppose that would depend on the personality of the dog.

I know when I go places with my dog, people always ask me if he's trained to attack if I find myself in a not so nice situation. I tell them no, and hope I never have to find out. He's protective of me, but not in that way.

If I had a gide dog and someone came up and tryed to hurt me i would hope to hell my dog would atact them, they are supose to get you from point A to B safely, SAFELY? so by Safe you mean to set and watch you get killed or hurt? I don't. Maybe a word comand or something.

No, I don't think so. If you have a strong bond with the dog, then they might, but you shouldn't expect it of them. I do agree with you though, if I was in trouble, I'd hope Voyager would look out for me. As it is, when people ask me if he bites, I tell them no, but he has teeth, so he could. I've been very lucky, know one's bothered me since I've had him.
